PAGEANTRY – SATURDAY, 4/2 @ 3:00PM
Denton dream pop band Pageantry will release a new single on Monday, March 7th from the band’s upcoming full-length album Influence, due out April 1st on Southern Heaven Records. The song “Teenage Crime Wave” is a fitting introduction to the album as a whole with its reverb drenched guitar ascending into an eruption of hazy synthesizers, growling bass and fluid drums drawing a wandering pattern, keeping the track wavering on the verge of disarray culminating into a triumphant chorus followed by a serene, understated outro.
The band recorded the 9 song album with producer Matt Pence (Here We Go Magic, Midlake, Centro-Matic, Sarah Jaffe) at The Echo Lab on the outskirts of Denton as well as home studios from 2014 to 2015 while the members came in and out from touring their previous release Friends of the Year. After months of tweaking the recordings with constant overdubs the band began to recognize their new direction, a fuller sound with an emphasis on spontaneity and subtlety. The resulting album is a distant relative of their previously released material, an intentional transformation to remain inspired through revision.
The band will also perform an official showcase at this year’s SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX. This will mark their second year as official artists, the first being in 2014 where their at-capacity showcase garnered them a place on the Huffington Post’s “Best of the Fest” list which led to appearances at CMJ, UMS, Center of the Universe and more.
Their official showcase will take place Friday, March 18th at TenOak with Black Books, BUHU and Santah.
