Close Back to Cactus

Gary Floyd is the much-lauded blues-punk singer of iconic bands like the ribald Dicks, rootsy Sister Double Happiness, acid-rockers Sister Kali Ma, and more. He is also a noted memoir author whose Please Bee Nice narrates the tale of his life in small town Arkansas and Texas, the frenetic punk and hardcore era, and his religious undertakings and return to the tour-de-force alternative rock scene when he traveled the world and opened for the likes of Nirvana.

More recently, he has become an outsider/visionary artist whose paintings embody both roughshod and whimsical elements, innocence and distress, as well as joy, humor, and calamity, with a touch of spirituality and pop culture too.

He is currently celebrating the publishing of I Said That, an incredible compendium of flyers, posters, lyrics, and photographs, many of them rare and previously unpublished, that chronicle his life in the Dicks. It has been widely popular in the wake of the band’s two reunion gigs last fall in Austin.

The Record Ranch will feature a short survey of his art; meanwhile, in the main room of Cactus, Floyd will read a small chapter of his memoir, and he will sign copies of new and vintage music recorded by his bands.

Gary will be joined by his editor David Ensminger, who will spin garage, soul, funk, and punk records after Floyd’s short reading and book signing.
