FLYING LOTUS “YOU’RE DEAD” LISTENING PARTY! – TUESDAY, 10/7 @ 5:30PM

You’re Dead! is a shamanic pilgrimage into the psychedelic unknown of the infinite afterlife. A sonic, visual and metaphysical fusion of technological innovation and technical virtuosity that amounts to a transcendent, mind-expanding plasm that could only exist between our world and another. The enduring universe of Lotus supporting cast has expanded and evolved to feature in order of appearance, Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Captain Murphy, Snoop Dogg, Angel Deradoorian, Thundercat, Niki Randa, alongside mindblowing original artwork by Japanese comic book artist Shintaro Kago. The album isnt about the end, it s really the beginning. Its a celebration of the next experience. Its the transition and the confusion. Its not hey you’re dead. Its hey you’re dead! You’re Dead! is released on 7th October 2014 on Warp Records.

DEF PERCEPTION – SATURDAY, 9/27 @ 3PM

TWEEDY “SUKIERAE” LISTENING PARTY! – TUESDAY, 9/23 @ 5:30PM

Sukierae features 20 new songs penned by Jeff, performed by Tweedy father and son along with a host of musical guests. “When I set out to make this record, I imagined it being a solo thing, but not in the sense of one guy strumming an acoustic guitar and singing, ” Jeff said. “Solo to me meant that I would do everything write the songs, play all the instruments and sing. But Spencer’s been with me from the very beginning demo sessions, playing drums and helping the songs take shape. In that sense, the record is kind of like a solo album performed by a duo. “

LISTENING PARTY! THE BLACK KEYS – TURN BLUE – TUESDAY, 5/13 @ 6PM

The Black Keys 2014 album, Turn Blue, released on Nonesuch Records, was produced by Danger Mouse, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, and features 11 tracks including the first single, “Fever. ”

Turn Blue was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood during the summer of 2013 with additional recording done at the Key Club in Benton Harbor, MI and Auerbach s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville in early 2014. Of the new album, the band says Turn Blue could refer to:

A: Suffocation
B: Sadness
C: Numbness from extreme cold
D: A Cleveland late night TV host from the 1960s named Ghoulardi
E: All of the above

Moreover, Carney comments, “We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a record not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either. On this record, we let the songs breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. We’re excited for the world to hear Turn Blue.” This is the eighth full-length album from the duo and follows 2011’s critically and commercially acclaimed El Camino, which is now certified RIAA Platinum.

COMING SOON (5/6) Tune-Yards Nikki-Nack

Merrill Garbus has performed as tUnE-yArDs since 2009, and that band name has always been synonymous with forward movement—whether because of her explosive performance style or the always-surprising way in which her songs unfold. In 2011, tUnE-yArDs released its second album, w h o k i l l, a startling and sonically adventurous statement that led to widespread acclaim. She took the fall of 2012 off to relax and take Haitian drum lessons, but when 2013 came around she still hadn’t written any new music. As a challenge Garbus started working on two new ideas a day. She made rules: One day she would only use drum machines; on another she would start with vocals first. Soon she had 30 songs to play with – and 13 of those became her latest and greatest album, Nikki Nack. Her new enthusiasm and percussion skills are perfectly embodied on “Water Fountain” – the hyper and addictive first single that plays like a 21st Century jump-rope chant. Quiet Storm R&B, 80’s pop in the vein of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, and they hypnotic rhythms of Haitian folk music also make their way into the mix, but it’s Garbus’ amazing voice and tricky melodies that make Nikki Nack indispensible. Eli “Paperboy” Reed – Nights Like This

Admirers have likened Eli “Paperboy” Reed to such luminaries as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, but he’s not merely trying to recreate a sound — Reed is channeling his influences and inspirations into making something all his own. “For me,” saysReed, “it’s all about writing pop songs. Soul music was the greatest pop music of the 20th century. I’m not trying to put anything on; this is what comes out, this is what happens”Nights Like This, which Reed produced with his guitarist and longtime collaborator Ryan Spraker, represents a sonic evolution beyond the singer’s soulful roots, taking his affinity for classic R&B and blending it with the ebullience of modern pop music – big beats, choppy samples, but plenty of old school charm and a killer voice. Nights Like This features the single “WooHoo” as well as “Shock to the System” which was co-written with Michael Fitzpatrick of Fitz and the Tantrums.
